Stanimir Veselinov Tenev, 8-year old, from the town of Burgas. The child’s diagnosis is congenital cataract – blurring of the rear cortinal layers and of the rear capsule of the left eye – /i.e. lazy eye/, as a result of which the boy’s eyesight is poor. The funds – BGN 2,500 we approved, were used for operation of the child’s eye. The operation performed in July in a clinic in Kaluga, Russia, was successful. July

Home for Medical and Social Care, Town of Debelets. In the home for medical and social care for children in the town of Debelets there are kids of age up to 3 years old, from the Veliko Tarnovo region who are accommodated by the Social Support Division and by the effects of public prosecutors’ decrees in accordance with the Law for Children’s Protection. In the home there is also a centre for treatment of children having development difficulties in very early age, suffering by physical, neurological and psychical illnesses. As at today the total number of the children nurtured and brought up in the home is 128. In July 2005, Dr. Anelia Georgieva – Manager on the home, called for the ProTegni Raka support and financing of first aid medicines purchase. Initially, the amount of BGN 776,63. Subsequently and upon our visit to the home the representatives from the ProTegni Raka a decision has been taken to purchase and supply the home regularly with baby diapers in the amount of BGN 500 monthly. Nadejda home, Stara Zagora Only children of pre-school age are nurtured in NADEJDA home. There are 39 children aged from 3 to 7 years old who live there. They are whether orphans or from needy families, which cannot look after them. The state is subsidizing the home and often there is a lack of funds for medicines. In July 2005, ProTegni Raka provided the home with BGN 400 for purchase of medicines – antibiotics, syrups, etc. Remedies were necessary for the medical treatment of children suffering virus infections, which happens very rarely. In September and November the home was visited again and it appeared that there still was a sufficient quantity of medicines left in stock. In the end of November there was a Hepatitis (A type) epidemic in the home. 23 children in total has been affected – each one to a different extent of the illness. Initially the medical treatment of the children has been carried out in the infectious ward of the hospital in Stara Zagora. Now all children are moved to the home and they should be treated with medicines for three more months. The medicines for the treatment were, however, not sufficient. “Chaikapharma”, a pharmaceutical company, donated part of the remedies, but the quantities were still insufficient. In order for the medical treatment to be completed additional quantities of medicines have been necessary – 30 packs of Kerazil in the amount BGN 115, 100 packs of Vitamin C – BGN 36 and disinfection materials for BGN 80. In December 2005 ProTegni Raka financed the purchase of the medicines.July

Ralitsa Nikolova was born in 2002 in Sofia. For the first time symptoms of leukemia are found when she was two years old. She is put to chemotherapy an in December, 2005 after second examination a relapse is settled and according to the doctors the only treatment aiming to lengthen her life is marrow transplantation abroad. Financing to the amount of 120 000 Dollars is approved by the Fund for treating children for this transplantation in Israel. The parents need resources which will cover the expenses for their child’s stay there, which will last from six to twelve months. “Protegni raka” granted 2500lv to help for the family’s stay in Israel. At the moment Ralitsa is still healing in Israel. July

Hristian Petev Hristov was born in 1998 in the town of Svishtov. The child suffers a so called transposition of main arteries (inborn heart defect). At the third day after he was born the doctors detected transpositions of some of the main arteries and a small inner chamber defect of the heart. All medical operations made to Hristian so far have been free of charge. Since April 2005 he has started to take LifePack Junior additives that made significant improvement of the body’s defensive system and heart functioning. Hristian’s mother decided to purchase these additives as the child had suffered double sided pneumonias already twice and as an effect of the strong antibiotics he has developed allergy reactions and infections. As of August 2005 ProTegni Raka committed itself to cover the expenses for Hristian’s additives for an year period. August

Darina Hamova was born in 2003 in the town of Haskovo. She suffers of cerebral palsy and as a result of this disease the child has motion difficulties especially with of her left arm and leg. Since the day she was born till now, Darina has gone through one operation and five different medical rehabilitations. ProTegni Raka provided funds amounting to BGN 1555 for medical and physical treatment of Darina. According to the last epicrisis the course of the disease is chronic, no progressive and without any complications, as well as with improvement of general motion activity. September

Boarding House, Novo Selo In the boarding house in Novo Selo village, located in Veliko Tarnovo municipality, there are children who are mentally retarded. As at today the total number of the children is 98, as part of them are orphans and another part living in serious social situation. Initially, ProTegni Raka financed the purchase of medicines amounting to BGN 137. Later in September 2005 ProTegni Raka undertook the responsibility to support the house by purchasing medicines regularly amounting to BGN 200 monthly. September
